Building A WordPress Site For You
What if you don’t wanna deal with installing WordPress, configuring, installing, tweaking (not twerking, that’s different), setting, resetting, moving, and all the other verbs involved with getting the site ready to be populated with content?
No problem. I can make all that happen for you.
Starting with nothing on the path to a finished product can be damn overwhelming.
I can set up WordPress, upload header and other static images, set up slideshows or videos if needed, install and configure plugins and a theme, and build out the menus and page structure of your site so that everything is ready for you to insert your copy.
I can also set up email accounts for you new domain and help you get access to those in whatever software/system you prefer for reading your email.
Plugins:
Plugins are code you add to WordPress to give it additional functionality. Typically plugins exist to do one specific thing or a set of related functions.
I typically only use free plugins which are available through and vetted by WordPress.org.
In the event you want or need to use a component that cost money you will purchase and own it, not me. I do this is so that you have complete control and ownership of your site and all the software on it. You are under no obligation to continue using my services.
Themes:
The theme is what controls the look and layout of your site. Colours, sidebars, headers, footers, fonts, all this and more.
I typically use Weaver X Plus (paid) or Weaver X (free) on websites if there are no free themes from WordPress.org able to create the visual look you desire. The theme I use on all my sites is Weaver X Plus. It does cost money and I consider it worth every cent.
On-going Support:
If you want me to check in on your website on a regular basis to look things over you can purchase a maintenance package subscription.
The Process:
Building a website takes quite a bit of planning. Before I start doing anything we will need to chat about what your needs are, what you want the site to look like, what the purpose is and how it should be organized. This will require a considerable amount of planning on your end so that we can build it right the first time instead of building it right the second time.
If you also want to do it right the first time instead of the second time (and save time & money) you need to do some homework. Here is what you should plan out before setting up a website.
Expect the process of building your site to take at least 6 weeks from the first time we talk until the day the site is ready to go “live”. If you have a deadline be sure to let me know this up front so we can plan accordingly.
Copy Writing:
I am not a content writer. I can not write the copy on your site. Either you should write it yourself or you should hire a copy writer. I can make some suggestions about your writing. I’ll even edit for typos and mistakes of that nature if you like. You can judge my proof reading skills by how many typos you find on this website.
Copyright:
You need to own the rights to, or have permission to use, all content I put on your website. That’s text, graphics, photos, everything.
I will not download photos or copy text from other people’s websites to put on yours. Yes. I have been asked to do this.
Contract and Cost:
Cost for building a site: I bill at $65.00 / hour, $85.00 for the first hour. 35 to 45 hours is the typical time it takes for a static website or a blog. More advanced sites will take more time. Adequate planning by both of us will make things go faster. Ready to get started? Contact me and let’s make it happen.
