What Even Is ClassicPress?
WordPress has now moved to the Gutenberg block editor as the default interface for building pages and posts. This move has meet with mixed reviews. Since I’ve been using WordPress I’ve not seen any other decision inspire this much backlash and hate.
I myself have not delved much into the block editor. I have established systems for doing what I do and the block editor simply doesn’t fit with my system.
If you are new to WordPress you should have a go at it and see if it fits your way of thinking and doing.
Currently you can disable the block editor with plugins. Classic Editor is the officially support plugin for this purpose. But for how long? At some point will WordPress force the block editor on everyone?
This brings us to ClassicPress.
ClassicPress is a community-led open source content management system and a fork of WordPress that preserves the classic TinyMCE editor as the default option.
ClassicPress serves users who will benefit greatly from a robust, business-focused CMS. As ClassicPress evolves, the features and functionalities we implement will align with the votes of the ClassicPress community and our three core ideals:
Powerful. Versatile. Predictable.
As of the time I’m writing this page I have not yet tested ClassicPress but it’s on my short list. The documentation says you can convert an exiting WordPress site to ClassicPress. I will be testing this out.
Check back here for future results.
Depending on how things turn out I will offer ClassicPress support and services in addition to WordPress support and services.
